Holiday Cheer!

Reverb Day 6: Make. What was the last thing you made? What materials did you use? Is there something you want to make, but you need to clear some time for it?

Ooooh, this is such a fun one. I'm currently in the process of finishing up a little project that I have been very excited about. Growing up, the Christmas stockings in the Lay home were always handmade. Because I am super sentimental and I am used to having stockings that are extra special because my mom made them, I have been unable to bring myself to buy stockings since Josh and I have been married. Every year around November I realize that we still don't have Christmas stockings and I want to make them, but by that point I don't have enough time or inspiration to do so.

This year I was absolutely determined to get them made because I really want Liam to have one for his first Christmas. So, back in September (after spending way to much time trying to create a vision in my mind's eye of the look I was going for) I finally went to Hobby Lobby & the local quilting store to get my materials & get to work. They aren't quite finished yet: I still need to figure out how I want to stitch our names into them, sew a few more details onto Liam's, and then stitch the backs onto them. I should have them finished by Christmas - but if not they'll at least be far enough along that I can hang them on the mantle.

Here they are so far: ta-daaa!

I used faux sheepskin for the body of the stockings, felted wool to make the ornaments, and various ribbons, rickrack, and vintage buttons for the finishing touches. So fun!

ok frist, i love your stockings! secondly, i just went through and read all your reverbs. you are right, it is impossible to fully understand what it takes to be a parent until you become one yourself. and it most certaintily does highlight all the areas of selfishness in our own lives. but it is also one of the most amazing and selfless things you could do. being a mom is AWESOME! and i know you are a great mama stef! (cant wait to see you mama in person!)

this reverb thing is great. keep it up friend. im excited to read the rest of the month.
