When I meet a new person and they tell me that they really like to read, I get very excited. I think, "that's awesome, I really like to read, too. Maybe we will be good friends who talk about books." If they proceed to tell me that they like to read a genre of writing that I do not enjoy or find interesting, a part of me becomes very disappointed. Not that I don't want to be friends with the new person anymore, I just get bummed out that we won't share that interest.
I imagine that it is how a person who really enjoys playing golf would feel if they heard my husband say he likes playing golf ... disc golf.
I have no idea what made me think about this today, just a thought.
